Being an integral part of this project implementation, SEDC staff periodically
conducts business planning and skills’ training as the need arises in all
the Islands. Such courses assist new entrants and existing businesses to
be better equipped at commencing their enterprises on solid foundation
and assisting in the management of the existing ones to operate
successfully and profitably. The latest of such skills training was done on
Budgeting and Money Management in South Caicos. The picture on the
right shows the participants at the training.
Follow up visits to businesses is undertaken periodically to ensure that
the new businesses that commence operation and the existing ones are
closely monitored in various areas of needed assistance. During such
visits, clients are assisted in areas relevant to their businesses. Some
common areas include store layout, supplies and purchases, relevant
information on government policies as related to small enterprises,
national insurance guidelines, information on new technologies plus
business opportunities that are available in the Islands due to the
development efforts of the government.
The graduates of our training programs are provided with
quarterly extension services at their various locations in the
Islands. The purpose of this exercise is to ensure that the
clients implement their business ideas appropriately. Such
visits enables the center to have first hand information on the
progress of the businesses.. During the exercise, existing
businesses are visited to assist in solving any problem
identified in the course of their operations while latest
information on the activities of the center are disseminated.
